Remembrance Poppy Wreaths

On a very hot September day we gathered in Jean Talboys garden to make two poppy wreaths and button holes with more than a hundred poppies knitted by members and friends.

One of these will be laid in Hollingbourne Church on Remembrance Sunday and the other will be taken to Templeuve on the 11th of November. We used several shades of red, with bright green leaves and centres made by Mary Henderson to produce an attractive new take on the traditional poppy wreath.

Thames Trip on the MV Princess Pocahontas

The weather behaved itself on this wonderful full days outing. Eleven members including guests made their way in two cars to Gravesend where we boarded the Princess Pocahontas at the Tilbury Landing Stage.
An option to eat on board was on offer and some of us took advantage of this.

We passed many historic sites along the river. Pictured below is the bow of HMS Belfast
There was full commentary all the way to Westminster Bridge where we eventually turned to make our way back to Gravesend.
A good time was had by all.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea was laid on in our Village Hall for a party of people returning from a day trip to Deal.
The group were the "Open Door Club" from Kemsing, who normally stop off at the Tenterden WI for their afternoon tea. But unfortunately this year they were unable to accommodate them, so Hollingbourne put on a spread for them.

When they had departed the helpers all sat down and filled their boots with the left overs, and a cup of tea.
